Brian McRae – Australia First Party (Senate)
Hi Zanie,
I have been a registered firearm owner for about 50 years.
I have 11 firearms on my license from air rifle to high power.
I am concerned that the current administration in Australia with help from a compliant media are doing whatever they can to cause fear and panic among the general populace in regards to firearm ownership.
This is not only relevant to the current administration and goes back many years.
I agree that some constraints are necessary when selling firearms as there are certainly people who should never have access to a tooth pick let alone a firearm, however it is wrong to place all Australians in this same basket.
The control of feral animals would be better served by the encouragement of hunting rather than poisoning and other haphazard methods.
Most hunters are sensible and respect both the hunted animal, and the safety of other animals and persons.
Australia’s national security would be vastly improved if sensible people were encouraged to learn to respect and use firearms.
The government will never be able to control unlicensed firearms as like illicit drugs criminals will have a network to supply these and anything else they want which is illegal.
I believe that shooters should be licensed and be able to within reason be able to purchase and use whatever they want which should only be required to be on a register and not an annual license.
This would solve much of the unregistered firearm issue which I do not believe to be as greater concern as what it is made.
Cadet training at schools would also provide a better understanding of firearms and their use and would not only alleviate some of the concerns of the “uneducated”, but also place Australia in a more secure position in the event of a national conflict.
Kind Regards,
Brian
