Thank you for taking the time to contact Senator Johnston. He greatly appreciates the issues you have raised and has asked that I respond on his behalf.

David is a strong supporter of lawful firearm ownership. David is a former firearm owner, his farther owned firearms and his sun is a current licence holder with a lawful firearm.

Legitimate ownership of a firearm with a valid license is a critical aspect of life in Australia, particularly in regional areas. The prevention of firearms permits for legitimate purposes would not only harm confidence in regional areas but potentially put people at risk.

David is a strong supporter of  recreational shooting for target competitions and has himself enjoyed clay shooting. He is also supportive of the use of firearms for the removal of pest animals where it is done in a safe and proper manner.

Whilst David supports the use of firearms he does recognise the need for proper regulation in relation to access of firearms and their proper handling.
