Nae’s Semi-Custom Weatherby
Built around a Weatherby Vanguard action on a strikingly colourful McMillan A3/5 stock, this rifle features a Leupold VX-6HD scope and a 6.5-284 Norma 1/8″ twist fluted match TSE barrel.
This combination is good for 1250 Meters or further (depending on the conditions on the day) and a fantastic goat gun. Which is why she had a goat head engraved on the floorplate.
Off the bags the A3/5 tracks extremely well, but it’s practical shooting from improvised rests and positions where this stock shines. But it’s important a gun looks good as well as feels good, so Nae got McMillan to make it in her favourite colour combination.
The 6.5-284 Norma cartridge is a great long range round – it’s rebated head design allows it to hold nearly as much powder as a 30-06, but the shorter case leaves much more room for the long, high ballistic coefficient .264 projectiles, like the 140grain Nosler RDF projectile that Nae uses. It’s this long throat that gives this cartridge such good efficiency and accuracy over long distances.
It’s hard to give a price for a custom rifle because each one turns out different but this particular build cost around the $4500 mark (not including the scope).
